Nourish Interactive Partners with USDA to Improve Family Nutrition and Prevent Childhood Obesity
June 18, 2008 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Nourish Interactive, a new kids’ health and nutrition game website, was recognized as a charter partner at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) MyPyramid Corporate launch held in Washington DC on June 10th. The multi-media event "Formula for Our Families’ Futures: The Road to Healthville" featured some of the Nation’s leading corporations, who are stepping forward to help stem the tide of childhood obesity in America.Launched by the USDA Center for Policy and Promotion (CNPP), the goal of the campaign is to partner with companies across industries with the common goal of promoting healthy eating through marketing campaigns that will reach out to their customer base to promote the food pyramid, choosing a balanced diet and exercise.
Nourish Interactive was selected for its new website offering free online nutrition games for kids, healthy meal planning activities and nutrition education tools for families. Developed by nutrition and health care professionals, the site uses animated "flash" video game technology, activities, mini games and puzzles to teach families about the latest USDA kid’s food pyramid and the importance of nutrition and exercise. Kids play online games and parents receive tips as well as updates as to their child’s progress, reinforcing the knowledge and skills needed in order to make healthy lifestyle choices.
Dr. Brian Wansink, CNPP Executive Director USDA said, "USDA welcomes Nourish Interactive as a team member of the ‘Partnering with MyPyramid: Corporate Challenge’ to improve family nutrition and end childhood obesity. "We’re thrilled that Nourish Interactive has joined the MyPyramid Corporate Challenge, becoming part of a 3-pronged movement where government, industry, and education are taking aim at transforming the way America eats. Working together, we can begin to make immediate changes where family members work, live, and play, which can have lasting impact on child and family health."
Nourish Interactive’s online kids’ nutrition games were featured in the "where you play" promotion category and also highlighted in the special MyPyramid Hispanic Community section. As a charter MyPyramid member, Nourish Interactive received a certificate of recognition signed by Dr. Wansink, CNPP Executive Director and Chuck Connor, Deputy Secretary of Agriculture.
Maggie LaBarbera, President and Founder of Nourish Interactive, said, "Nourish Interactive is thrilled to partner with the US Department of Agriculture in our shared goals to help Americans make healthier food choices. Nourish Interactive’s mission has always been to make nutrition fun and engaging for children through our interactive games and nutrition tools. Our Chef Solus and the Food Pyramid Adventure is one of several games combining the key messages of the MyPyramid with our expertise in online nutrition education."
Nourishinteractive.com's online learning platform offers free kids' nutrition education games and childhood obesity prevention tools, available in English and Spanish.
